A marketing coordinator is generally responsible for administrative and other functions within a marketing department. There are several types of marketing coordinator jobs, which usually relate to specific functions within marketing. These include traffic coordinators, advertising coordinators, pricing and promotions staff, and social media coordinators.

Many marketing coordinator jobs are in the print and online advertising industry. This type of job can encompass a wide variety of duties, including tracking ad specifications such as color and size, coordinating with the design department to produce ad copy and paying invoices. Coordinators and assistants in this area also are often responsible for receiving, checking and filing tear sheets, which are physical copies of the published ads sent by the publication to the client as proof of insertion.

Other areas of advertising also offer marketing coordinator jobs. A coordinator in a television or radio advertising agency, for instance, might book talent and studio time. She might also be responsible for paperwork, such as obtaining talent releases, updating timelines and sending client invoices.

One of the most common marketing coordinator jobs involves project trafficking. This process includes maintaining a database of active jobs and their associated deliverables and deadlines. It also involves assigning jobs to design, copywriting and other marketing professionals, and ensuring that deadlines are met.

Promotions coordinators also work in this field and participate in activities such as developing sales pricing and developing giveaway promotions. They also help determine how those promotions should be advertised and work with the appropriate internal and external parties to execute plans. They often help arrange trade show and conference events as well.

Pricing coordinators are marketing professionals who work with the accounting, operations and sales staffs to develop pricing strategies. This can include performing research to determine market standards and analyzing price point options in relationship to profit potential. It can also include working with computer systems to update pricing in store-based systems and communicating price changes to field employees.

Social media is a fast-growing source of marketing coordinator jobs as well. Social media coordinators maintain social media pages and profiles, update information, create events, write posts and respond to fan posts. They are often responsible for tracking social media metrics and for investigating and making recommendations about new platforms as they arise.

Many marketing coordinator jobs involve writing copy for ads, press releases, blogs and other materials. Coordinators in any industry might also make travel arrangements; oversee a department's budget; and create and manage correspondence, spreadsheets and databases. Crossover between functions is not unusual between the various types of marketing coordinator positions.
