When making a career change, one of the most important considerations is what the outlook is for the particular field, industry or career path the person is considering. Second, career change opportunities should match the skills and experience that the person has or can acquire to meet the requirements to enter into the new career. The individual should also evaluate their own likes and dislikes before deciding on any career change opportunities.

Before choosing career change opportunities, the individual should first research what the future holds for a particular field or industry. One of the best ways to find this information is to review the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau Statistics, or other related government agency, which puts out career information on all types of careers. The information includes growth in the career, salary ranges and other positions that the employee may be able to move into along their career path.

While making a change into new career, because opportunities may be completely different than what the person is currently doing, it is imperative to evaluate the skills and experience the person possesses. The skills and experience that the person already has should be highlighted as a benefit when applying for a position or getting ready to make the change in careers.

Evaluation of the requirements to enter into the new field is also important. Any skills or experience the person does not currently possess but needs to have to make the career change should be obtained prior to changing careers. For example, if the career change requires the employee to obtain a license, then the person may need to study for and pass an exam prior to obtaining the license.

Career change opportunities often have to do with what the person likes and dislikes about their current career or careers they have held in the past. Before making any type of career change, the individual should consider their preferences in all of the positions they have ever held.

Once a list of likes and dislikes is created, then the person can match these qualities to the career change opportunities they are considering. The positions that allow the individual to do as many of the things they like and enjoy doing as possible is typically the best of the career change opportunities from which to choose.
