What Are the Different Types of Business Career Objectives?
Different types of business career objectives are typically based on various aspects of professional life. For example, financial objectives are often set by a person to establish a personal goal for the type of salary or income he or she wants to make. There are positional targets that people can set, such as certain jobs or careers they would like to attain. Some business career objectives can also be related to other aspects of people's lives, such as personal and social accomplishments that align with professional goals.
Some of the most common forms of business career objectives are financial goals that establish the level of pay a person wants to reach within certain conditions. For example, someone might determine that he or she wants to make $100,000 US Dollars (USD) within five years of beginning at a company or at a certain position. This establishes a target salary that the employee wants to reach, so that choices can be made regarding possible advancement in the future to help reach the goal. These types of business career objectives can help employees better understand where they want to go within a company and strive to attain higher compensation.
People can also set certain positions or jobs as business career objectives. While this can be somewhat similar to the use of salary levels as a goal, it is intended as a more role-oriented target that allows a person to strive for a non-financial objective. These two goals can be mutual; someone may want to attain a certain level of salary while also working in a particular position. The nature of income at many companies, however, is such that these business career objectives may be quite separate, allowing someone to work toward a certain job without consideration for pay scale.
Although business career objectives are typically professional in nature, certain goals can transcend this and provide someone with non-work related aims. Someone may want to attain a position that is financially stable, but also allows him or her to have a certain amount of time off to spend with friends or family. For many people, the idea of have every weekend off and a set number of weeks each year for vacation is such a goal. Business career objectives can include personal milestones, such as a certain number of years at a company, profiting from self-employment, or successfully starting a new business.
