What are Strength Training Shoes?

Strength training shoes are a type of athletic footwear designed expressly for training purposes. This shoe has an extra platform below the sole, which runs from just below the ball of the foot to the toes. The purpose of this is to cause the wearer's calf muscles to bear all of his weight while working out. This, in turn, helps to develop a well-developed calf muscle, typically resulting in faster run times and higher jumps.

Strength training shoes also work the Achilles tendon in an effort to prevent injuries. As a person's weight is being distributed to the calf muscle during a workout, the Achilles tendon is stretched at the same time. Increased flexibility in this tendon helps an athlete achieve a wider range of motion than would normally be possible, and reduces the possibility of pulling a tendon or muscle.

These shoes are usually designed to fight tightly on the foot, with little room for the ankle to move. The tight fit helps keep the foot properly aligned during the workout. It will also hold the ankle in place so that it does not slip down or twist while the athlete is performing his strength training routine. Many strength training shoes come in a high-top style for extra ankle support.

Strength training shoes are generally lightweight and flexible. They lace up and are tied the same way as regular athletic shoes. Shoes designed to be worn during a strength training routine do not usually have any extra straps or attachments. The sole of this shoe is typically made of flexible, non-marking rubber.

A workout performed while wearing a strength training shoe should not be attempted without the advice of a professional strength trainer. He will usually ensure that the athlete performs exercises using proper techniques, and can also recommend exercises that target personal goals. A strength training professional will normally also develop a workout that is based on individual fitness levels.

Unlike other types of athletic apparel, strength training shoes are not designed to be worn for everyday use. They are only to be worn while performing a specialized workout routine under the guidance of a knowledgeable fitness coach. There is usually an adjustment period when a trainee first begins wearing these shoes during his workout. Most sports enthusiasts find that they perform their strength training routines more easily after one to two weeks. With continued use, most athletes notice increased endurance, higher jumps, and faster sprint times.
