Magnesium oil is a compound of water saturated with magnesium chloride. It isn’t a natural oil. When it is rubbed onto the skin, the body absorbs more magnesium than it does from oral supplements. Only about 20% of the magnesium in oral supplements is absorbed by the body, while 100% is absorbed from magnesium oil. Many people use magnesium oil in order to obtain the amount necessary for good health.

In the early 1900s, magnesium was abundant in food and water, but due to technological changes this no longer holds true. Filtration systems remove minerals from drinking water, and factory farming has drained the minerals from the soil so that meat and produce don’t contain as many minerals and other nutrients as they used to. The magnesium that is necessary for many bodily functions is no longer available through diet alone, and it is estimated that 80% of Americans are deficient in this vital mineral.

Magnesium plays an important role in more than 300 enzymatic activities in the human body. Approximately 50% of the magnesium stored in the body is located in the bones, so obtaining the necessary amount of absorbable magnesium is important for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. The remainder of the magnesium in the human body is stored in the tissues, with a high amount present in the heart.

Many members of the medical profession believe studies have shown a causal link between magnesium deficiency and various health issues. Emphysema, stroke, irregular heart beat, asthma, and heart attacks have all been associated with magnesium deficiency. Some experts believe that many modern cases of heart disease can be attributed to a lack of magnesium in the diet.

Some other problems that can be caused by magnesium deficiency are diabetes, fibromyalgia, glaucoma, migraines, and kidney stones. Many members of the medical community encourage their patients to follow the recommended daily allowance for magnesium. It is believed that magnesium can alleviate many maladies and conditions including muscle or joint pain, restless leg syndrome, stress, gout, cramps, migraines, chronic fatigue, PMS, or insomnia. Due to its high rate of transdermal absorption, magnesium oil is often the preferred over magnesium supplements.

Athletes often use magnesium oil for instant relief. When rubbed onto the skin, magnesium oil relaxes muscles and can relieve aches and pains on contact because it is absorbed so rapidly. It can relieve stress, improve ones’ mood, and support the building of healthy tissues. Magnesium oil can also be used as a natural deodorant.
