What are the Different Holistic Cures?

By Harriette Halepis
Updated: May 17, 2024

There are many different holistic cures, ranging from acupuncture to aromatherapy. In fact, there are so many different holistic cures that it's nearly impossible to name them all. The idea behind holistic healing is to address the body as a whole, and not to focus solely upon the part of the body that is in pain. Thus, different holistic cures seek to heal one's entire body through various applications.

Holistic practitioners consider any discomfort or ailment that a person is experiencing to be a direct result of an imbalance. This imbalance can come from a mental or physical issue, though all aspects of a person's being must be addressed. By seeking to find the cause of the imbalance, the original problem is then eliminated.

Amongst all the different holistic cures in the world, reiki, acupuncture, and ayurvedic medicine are some of the most popular. Reiki is a type of spiritual healing that was first developed in 1922. A reiki practitioner attempts to heal a person by allowing energy to pass through the hands and into a patient's body. Many reiki patients experience deep relaxation accompanied by a tingling sensation during a reiki session. While there is no scientific proof as to the effectiveness of reiki, there are many practitioners and patients of this holistic cure.

Ayurvedic medicine is a unique type of holistic medicine that focuses upon each person as an individual. After listening to a patient's problems, an Ayurvedic practitioner will then prescribe a number of herbs, a change in diet, exercise, and even spiritual exercises. The idea behind Ayurvedic medicine is to help a person attain inner balance through a number of different methodologies. Ayurvedic medicine has been in existence since the Vedic period in India, and it is still a large part of medicinal life in India today.

Acupuncture is a type of Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of filiform needles into a person's body. By placing these needles in specific pressure points, this medicine aims at curing specific diseases and ailments. Acupuncture may also be accompanied by various herbal remedies.

Even though the different holistic cures mentioned above seem to be entirely dissimilar, they are all based upon the belief that the body, mind, and soul must be cured and treated as a whole entity. This is in stark contrast to conventional Western medicine that attempts to treat only those portions of the body that are afflicted by disease or physical pain. Whether or not one type of medicine is better than another remains to be seen, though many people often seek holistic cures following failed conventional medical treatments.
