Some examples of fat burning herbs may include things like ginseng, green tea, bitter orange, and dandelion. Substances found in these herbs have been shown to have speed up the metabolism and aid in faster weight loss. In general, there is no “magic pill” for maintaining a healthy weight, so even when using these herbs, dieters will still need to cut back on fats and sugar and exercise regularly. The herbs come in supplement form and can often be found in health food stores and some pharmacies.

Ginseng has been shown to have some effects on the metabolism, although studies are still being conducted to determine how effective it is as a weight loss aid. However, aside from helping dieters lose weight, ginseng is good for boosting energy and offers a host of other healthy side effects. Additionally, having more energy means one may be more inclined to exercise, which is also good for long-term weight loss.

Green tea has also been shown to rev up the metabolism, especially when used in a healthy diet and exercise plan. Dieters can get the effects of this substance from drinking green tea hot or cold, or by taking green tea capsules. Aside from being one of the most effective fat burning herbs, green tea also has a substantial amount of antioxidants. These are important health promoting agents which help destroy free radicals and prevent a host of health problems.

Bitter orange and dandelion are both fat burning herbs that can be found at most health food stores. Bitter orange is effective at speeding up the metabolic rate in some people, and has no known side effects. Dandelion helps the body break down carbohydrates and helps curb appetite, resulting in fewer cravings and an easier time sticking with a diet. Although both of these herbs are considered safe and healthy, dieters should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking these and any other supplements, primarily if they are on additional drugs.

Dieters should remember that not all things that are natural are harmless or safe. Some fat burning herbs are also stimulants and can result in rapid heart rate and other serious side effects. Ephedrine is one example of this type of herb. Others natural weight loss remedies are nothing more than laxatives and all weight loss is due to an increase in bowel movements and water loss. When unsure about a particular weight loss supplement, dieters are encouraged to speak with their doctors.
