Wildland fire training can be helpful in controlling forest fires. If you are interested in this type of fire fighting, you may want to join a volunteer fire department. After doing so, you can apply at an institution that provides wildland fire training. You may also want to become familiar with the Incident Command System (ICS) so you can understand how multiple agencies work together. Additional courses to become certified in basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also advisable.

Training on how to extinguish uncontrolled fires is typically reserved for those already working as a firefighter. If you are not employed with a local fire department, find out if there is a volunteer agency near you. The recruiter there will know what qualifications you need to meet in order to join the department.

Many countries recognize the need for multiple agencies to respond to disasters. For this reason, there are programs such as ICS in place to help different organizations work together. Find out if such a system exists in your area and become familiar with it. If formal training classes are offered, it can be a good idea to take these as well.

Taking college courses can help you obtain wildland fire training. This is especially true if you live in an area that is prone to forest fires. Local schools may offer degree plans in fire science or disaster readiness. By taking these courses, you can also network with professionals in this line of work who can notify you of upcoming training events.

Physical fitness is important so that you will be prepared for wildland fire training when the time comes. Upper-body strength should be developed so that you will be able to carry heavy equipment for long distances. You should also work on your cardiovascular endurance by running up and down hills. Wildland fire fighting can be more strenuous than other types of fire fighting, so stamina and endurance are necessary for this type of training program.
