A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in biotechnology program combines science and technology studies with business courses. To earn an MBA in biotechnology, you will usually need to secure a high school diploma and then complete a four-year degree program. Then, you’ll typically need to provide the MBA program you choose with official college transcripts, copies of pre-admission standardized test scores, and letters of recommendation as part of the application process. Once accepted, you may take courses in not only biotechnology and business administration, but also biochemistry and statistics.

Before you can apply and gain acceptance to an MBA in biotechnology program, you will usually need to start with the basic foundation of a high school education. In most cases, you’ll need either a high school diploma or a general educational development (GED) diploma in order to get accepted into an undergraduate program. In general, MBA in biotechnology programs require applicants to have bachelor’s degrees. You may be accepted into one of these programs with a bachelor's degree in a variety of majors, but earning a business- or science-related degree may provide good preparation for your next level of studies. No matter which undergraduate major you choose, however, you’ll usually need to perform well in classes that focus on science, technology, and business to gain acceptance to such a program.

The admissions requirements for an MBA in biotechnology program will vary from school to school. Often, however, these programs are competitive, which means you may need to have a high grade point average and above-average scores on standardized exams to be admitted. Most schools also want to see a transcript from each of the colleges you’ve attended as well as letters of personal recommendation. You may also be asked to write an essay that details your goals and background as part of the application process. Additionally, you may be interviewed as part of the application process.

You will usually need to take a basic core of courses as you work toward earning an MBA in biotechnology. Among the classes you may take are principles of biotechnology; applied cell and molecular biology; and science technology and ethics. Other subjects often included in a biotechnology MBA program are finance, leadership, financial reporting, and management. You may also have an opportunity to take electives as part of the program. The number of credits you will need to earn this degree will depend on the program you select.
