When you are trying to choose the best self-esteem program, it is important to understand that you are not just choosing a program — you are also choosing an instructor. To ensure that the program you select will have the best chance of meeting your needs, you will likely want to make sure the one you choose is taught by a well-qualified instructor. For example, you may prefer a course that is taught by a psychologist, though this isn't your only option; you may also find courses taught by other types of mental health experts, motivational gurus, or self-help authors beneficial. In fact, you might even consider programs taught by people who have overcome difficult odds and faced self-esteem challenges of their own.

The best self-esteem program may also depend on your personal goals. For example, if you are taking a class to understand self-esteem better and in the hopes of eventually helping others with self-esteem issues, you may need a very different program than if you are struggling with self-esteem issues of your own. In the case of the former, you might prefer a program that has a more academic focus as well as content that helps prepare you for helping others gain a more positive self-image. If, on the other hand, you are trying to build your own self-esteem, you may prefer a program that involves a more personal focus and exercises you can use at home.

Scheduling may also prove to be an important consideration when you are trying to choose the best self-esteem program. If you are not taking this type of course as a mandatory credit for an educational program or as a work requirement, you may feel tempted to skip classes from time to time. If you choose a program that is scheduled at an optimal time for you, you may feel less tempted to miss class meetings times. Additionally, if you choose a course that meets at a time of day at which you are at your best, you may feel more motivated to continue attending.

The meeting location for the course you are considering might also make a difference when you are trying to choose the best self-esteem program. Many find that they are less likely to skip classes if the courses they choose meet in locations close to their homes or places of business. If you choose a program in a convenient location, you may miss fewer classes because of bad weather or heavy traffic. Likewise, you may feel less tempted to skip class for such reasons as being tired.
