If you want to pursue a career in doing nails, then your first stop is to find a pedicure school. In order to choose the best school to learn how to do professional pedicures, there are specific criteria you should look for in the school. State requirements, accreditation, and learning from faculty that are in the business are but a few of the factors that you should look for when you are scouting out pedicure schools.

Each state has its own requirements for a pedicurist to work in the state. Some states require students to attend an accredited beauty school and earn a certificate. Most states also require pedicurists to carry a professional license for the state and sometimes the county in which the pedicurist is working. Other states have exams that pedicurists must pass, so if this is the case then you want to look for a pedicure school that helps you through the entire process, including helping you to find a job when you are done.

A pedicure school should be accredited. Accreditation means that the school meets the state requirements for teaching students how to adhere to the state laws and regulations. This is important when it comes time to getting your professional license to work as a pedicurist.

You should also look into the professional backgrounds of the teachers that will be teaching you the techniques and tasks of being a pedicurist. You want to learn from professionals who know what they are doing so that you learn the correct pedicure procedures, how to clean your instruments according to the state laws and any other information you need to have a successful career as a pedicurist.

Your teachers may also have the connections that lead to helping you land a job in a salon or start your own salon business once you graduate from pedicure school. Find out which salons the teachers have worked in, how many years they worked as pedicurists and why they are teaching instead of still working as pedicurists.

The cost of attending pedicure school can range from program to program. Evaluate, contrast and compare the curriculum of the school to the cost of the program. Some schools offer financing options, so choose the one that best adheres to all of your criteria, rather than simply choosing a pedicure school solely on the cost of the program.
