How Do I Become a Premium Auditor?

To become a premium auditor, a combination of education, knowledge and training is necessary. Premium auditors work in the accounting department to ensure that transactions related to premiums, or gifts made for donations, are recorded and tracked correctly. A premium auditor has to have business and marketing skills to help improve the level of donations made from offering premiums. Experience in this particular line of work is necessary to succeed in your goal to become a premium auditor.

A high school diploma and undergraduate degree in accounting are necessary in most positions to become a premium auditor. Certain jobs might be available with a high school diploma and on-the-job training as a bookkeeper, but this does not occur on a regular basis. It is best to be fully prepared for the position by obtaining at least an undergraduate degree in accounting from a four-year institution. In many cases, this means that you would become eligible to take the test to become a certified public accountant (CPA), which provides an edge in getting hired at a company. Some positions require further education such as a graduate degree in accounting or business, particularly to be in a management position at an organization.

Experience working at a company that takes donations and presents premiums is a bonus to become a premium auditor. You need to have a good understanding of how this particular area of auditing works in order to help your organization remain legal. Often knowledge in marketing is important to become a premium auditor because the auditing department may need to help the organization increase the amount of donation it receives in return for its premiums. This experience and knowledge can be gained by obtaining an internship in this field during school or by being hired at an entry-level job in this field after completion of college.

Once education and some experience has been developed, it is time to find a job in the field. The application process varies for different positions but usually requires a resume, cover letter, transcripts and references. Getting these materials in order is vital towards finding a job as a premium auditor. Job postings can be found by speaking with advisers at your school and checking with professional auditor associations. Once a job has been deemed a good match, you can begin the application procedures, attend an interview and begin working as a premium auditor.
