If you are interested in recipes and food preparation, the next logical step may be to get the training necessary to become a dietetic technician. These people are trained professionals who work with dietitians to plan and prepare healthy meals in a number of different kinds of workplaces. A dietetic technician may find work in a school, hospital, or a long-term care facility. Some work in nursing homes or correctional facilities.

The first step to take if you want to become a dietetic technician is to sign up for a two-year post-secondary program. You can get the training you need at a technical college or vocational school. The program will include courses in nutrition, food science, and food service management.

Graduates from the program will have well-developed oral and written communication skills, which will benefit them when they enter the workforce. Once a student who wants to become a dietetic technician has completed the two-year program, he or she may still need to take additional courses before being able to get a job in this field. In some jurisdictions, students who want to become a dietetic technician must complete a supervised internship before being eligible to write a licensing exam or be certified.
