Traditional acupuncture is an ancient Chinese form of medicine. The technique involves the insertion of several small needles into the skin and underlying tissues at specific points in the body. Chinese acupuncture dates back to around 2500 BC and has been practiced in many parts of the world. This form of treatment is thought to be effective for many conditions not previously responsive to conventional practices.

Traditional acupuncture has three main goals. It aims to treat the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. It seeks not only to alleviate symptoms, but to target the cause. Acupuncture also provides treatment for managing the causal factor in order for patients to live more fully.

Chinese acupuncture involves the forces of yin and yang and their even distribution throughout the body so that the qi (chee) flows freely and harmoniously. Qi is believed to be the body’s vital energy. In order for all aspects of the body, mind, and spirit to function well, the qi must flow smoothly. When the body’s qi becomes unbalanced, symptoms begin to appear. Traditional acupuncture is designed to allow the body’s energy to return to normal.

Traditional acupuncture practitioners place needles in carefully selected points of the body, depending on symptoms. These acupuncture points help the qi regain balance and flow smoothly. Using specific methods for gathering information, practitioners rely on things like a person’s facial color, body odor, voice, predominant emotions, and pulse quality to determine the most effective acupuncture areas. Locating the precise points can help practitioners relieve pain, cure diseases, and improve a person’s general health.

Acupuncture is used to strengthen the body, prevent disease, calm the mind, and manage pain. While traditional acupuncture is useful for treating chronic and painful conditions like arthritis and migraines, it can be used as an effective treatment for numerous ailments. Other conditions include chronic fatigue, substance withdrawal, stress, depression, menopause, and injuries. It can even be used to increase fertility.

The use of traditional acupuncture has had its critics within the realm of conventional medicine. However, it has been found to be beneficial for numerous people, even reducing the negative side effects associated with medications. Chinese acupuncture can be a safe form of treatment for various symptoms and problems. There are very few side effects or complications associated with this ancient practice. However, it is always recommended that a qualified, licensed practitioner specializing in acupuncture be sought out for this alternative treatment.
