What are the Pros and Cons of a Cube Coffee Table?

A cube coffee table is a style of furniture that will appear very modern in a living room, which can be considered a "con" for some people, if they prefer a more traditional look. On the other hand, a cube coffee table usually provides a lot of extra storage for a smaller room, and can often be added to if extra storage is needed in the future. A table like this can also often do double duty as an ottoman as well.

A contemporary cube coffee table can really fit in well in a modern room. Some cube coffee tables are nesting tables, meaning that additional smaller tables are stored inside the largest table. This way, they can be kept out of sight and out of the way when not in use, then taken out when needed, offering a larger surface area for the room. Cube coffee tables are often fairly small, which could be a con if more space is needed; however, for people in small apartments, this could be a big help.

Even if the cube coffee table is not a nesting coffee table, it is usually hollow inside. Often, the top can be removed and items such as blankets, books, or television remote controls, for example, can be stored inside. Some cube coffee tables also feature tops that can be flipped upside down depending on the need. For instance, the coffee table might have a flat, wooden top most of the time, but this can be removed like a tray and flipped over to reveal a soft top, allowing the cube coffee table to be used as an ottoman.

People with very large rooms might purchase a group of cube coffee tables, then press them together to form one large coffee table. This can then also be modified as needed. Cube coffee tables are occasionally made of wood, but more often than not they are covered with fabric or other soft material. They may also be made of heavy plastic or aluminum for an even more modern appearance. If they are covered with fabric, they can become slightly more difficult to clean.

Typically, a cube coffee table will be comparably priced to other styles of coffee tables, depending on the manufacturer and the materials used. Though some more traditional styles of coffee tables are sold in a set with other living room furniture, cube coffee tables are typically never sold in a set. They will need to be purchased individually.
