What Are the Pros and Cons of a Baby Food Delivery Service?

For some, using a baby food delivery service can be a good way to feed a baby fresh food while avoiding the time spent having to prepare it at home. Such services typically may only be found in larger cities and may have very limited service areas, but for those who are able to take advantage of baby food delivery it can be quite helpful. Deciding whether or not to use such a service depends on personal preferences and whether or not the positive aspects outweigh the negative ones for each family.

One positive benefit that attracts many parents to a baby food delivery service is that the food is prepared fresh, without a lot of processing or added preservatives. Many companies that specialize in this type of service use only organic ingredients that are prepared fresh on a regular basis, then delivered to the customers shortly after preparation. The parents know that their babies are getting the best possible food but they don’t have to buy the whole foods and grind them up themselves, minimizing the mess and hassle. Using a delivery service can save time, since there is no special preparation required and no cleanup of baby grinders or other equipment.

In most cases, foods are prepared and delivered at least twice per week, sometimes more. This helps to ensure that the food is as fresh as possible and will not be likely to spoil before it is used. It also allows parents to order a variety of foods throughout the week so that the baby can try new foods as well as eat favorites on a regular basis.

Cost can be a concern, and using a baby food delivery service may be more expensive than buying baby food in jars from the store. It may also cost more than making the foods from scratch when using the same ingredients for adult foods. Buying from a service, though, can cost much less than buying and preparing foods specifically for the baby, while providing a larger selection of foods for the baby than might otherwise be available.

One potentially negative aspect of a baby food delivery service are that someone must be home to receive the products, which can be difficult to schedule for some. It is not uncommon for the service to provide a window for the delivery time, but no exact time of arrival. That means someone may need to be available for two or three hours while awaiting the delivery, which can be inconvenient for busy parents.

Another downside to using a baby food delivery service is the concern as to whether or not the food has been handled carefully, especially items that must be kept refrigerated. If it is out for delivery and sits in a truck for an hour or two, food that isn’t packaged properly can get too warm to stay safe. Parents should always ask about handling, and inspect preparation and handling facilities whenever possible.
