What are the Different Types of Hot Tub Products?

Hot tub products include chemicals to treat the water, accessories such as hot tub covers and steps, decking materials, and even patio furniture. The most common hot tub products focus on keeping the tub water sanitary and ready for use, though other products may include components such as heaters, motors, hot tub controls, and even electrical components such as plugs. The types of hot tub products an owner will want and need depend largely on the type of tub, the size of the tub, the regularity with which the tub is used, and even the location of the hot tub.

Sanitizers such as chlorine, bromine, and colloidal silver are hot tub products used to keep the hot tub water clean and ready for use. They work to kill bacteria that can build up after regular use; oils from the body, from hair, and even from detergents in clothing can leave bacteria behind, which can make the hot tub water smell bad, look cloudy, and potentially be harmful to one's health. The level of the chemicals used to treat the water must be closely monitored, as some of these chemicals can be eye and skin irritants that can cause rashes and itching.

Accessories are important hot tub products that can improve the look and functionality of the tub. Perhaps most important among the hot tub products considered accessories is the hot tub cover. The cover protects the hot tub water when not in use, and it helps prevent heat from escaping the tub, which can in turn reduce heating costs. The cover can also act as a safety device, especially if the hot tub is an in-ground tub. It can prevent a child or adult from inadvertently falling into the tub, decreasing the likelihood of drowning. Cover lifts are also available to make moving the cover on and off the tub much easier. Some are hydraulic assists, while others use a fulcrum to move the cover easily.

Filters, motors, ozonators, and electrical supplies are all key components to the tub as well. Filters work with treatment chemicals to keep the tub water clean and sanitary. They need to be replaced periodically, and a good filter will fit properly in the specific tub. Ozonators work with treatment chemicals to kill bacteria by adding ozone to the water. This quickens the pace with which bacteria is killed. Motors can be used to pump water into the tub through jets. The size of the motor will affect the amount of propulsion, though some tubs have certain motor specifications that must be followed to avoid damaging other equipment.
