There are a variety of ways to learn Linux® and a number of different levels of Linux® training. You can learn Linux® by taking a class, using a website, or reading a book. Commonly, these training methods are aimed at people who are just starting out with Linux®, although there are some advanced classes as well. As with other skills, the best method for learning Linux® depends on your learning style and personal abilities. Having some familiarity with computers is important if you are endeavoring to learn Linux® independently.

One of the easiest ways to learn Linux® is to take a class. If possible, it is a good idea to take a class that meets in person at a college or other computer school. Even though most of the material taught will concern computers and it is possible to learn Linux® from home, actually attending a class encourages students to commit to a new skill. Additionally, classes with physically present teachers are often able to provide more personalized help than those that meet online. Particularly for beginners, the best courses for learning Linux® are taught at colleges and other types of schools.

If a class through a college is not available, an online course is also a good option. These courses are usually fairly comprehensive and reliable. This type of Linux® training often provides some support for new learners as well.

When a guided course is not an option, it is very possible to learn Linux® online for free. Many different websites offer Linux® tutorials, and there is a wealth of information online for solving any problem. In addition to these formal resources, there are also forums and boards where specific confusions can be addressed. Even for a beginner, learning Linux® online is fairly easy.

There are many reliable and practical books for learning Linux® as well. These have the disadvantage of providing little support to new learners. For more advanced students honing their skills, a book can be the best option available. One thing that can be very useful is to use a combination of online and book resources to achieve a comprehensive understanding of Linux®.

If you are a self-directed learner, attempting to learn Linux® online or through a book can be a very good option. For those who need additional support, it may be easier to at least partner up with another person who is also learning Linux® in order to make sure that progress is made. While learning Linux® can be difficult in the beginning, once you have a strong foundation, solving more difficult problems becomes much easier.
