If you want to become a mathematics teacher or a research mathematician, a bachelor of mathematics is probably a good degree program for you. In order to enroll in a bachelor of mathematics program, you will first need to complete a high school education or equivalent qualification. You will need to earn exemplary grades in your mathematics courses while in high school, and it is a good idea to research the various application requirements for the programs to which you intend to apply, as some colleges will require that you have a specific grade point average in order to be accepted.

During high school, it is also wise to research various options for funding your education, as a bachelor of mathematics can be quite expensive. Look into scholarships, grants, and loans that will help you pay for your education and apply for them if you are eligible. At the same time, it will be necessary to fill out the college applications, and there may be a fee for these applications as well. Try to choose three or four programs that interest you and apply to all of them; this way, if your first choice does not pan out, you will have other options for earning a bachelor of mathematics.

Upon graduation from high school and acceptance to a college program, it is a good idea to meet with an academic advisor who can help you structure your coursework for the bachelor of mathematics. The best way to be prepared for such structuring is to determine what types of careers you intend to pursue once you graduate. If you intend to move on with your education and earn a master's degree, be sure to inform your advisor so he or she can help you design the most effective program of study.

The graduation requirements for a bachelor of mathematics will vary depending on the school you attend and the specific department requirements. Be prepared to spend four years or more attending classes and doing research. Many universities will require you to take general education courses outside of the mathematics realm, though other colleges may not require you to do so. You can find out what is involved in the degree program ahead of time by reading the college's mathematics department website or by contacting a mathematics department representative. You may be able to take some coursework online in addition to coursework in class; in some cases, you may be able to complete a degree program entirely online.
