How do I Choose the Best Pilates Training?

Choosing the best Pilates training largely depends on your personal preferences. Most fitness experts recommend beginners learn the basic moves and techniques from a certified Pilates trainer. Afterward, you can then perform these exercises at home with help from books or DVDs. There are several ways to learn Pilates, including classes and private instructors.

Pilates training is usually best learned from certified Pilates trainers. Pilates instructor training often requires months of study, and possibly apprenticeship. While getting a Pilates training certification, an instructor will usually be schooled in all forms of Pilates, including the use of Pilates machines and equipment.

Certified Pilates instructors know how to teach the proper techniques in this type of exercise. This is especially important, since Pilates exercises that are improperly performed can result in serious physical strain. Choosing an instructor for your Pilates training is considered to be very important.

When choosing, many instructors or gyms will allow you to attend one or two sessions before signing up for a full Pilates program. During this time, you should pay attention to how the instructor interacts with the students. Be sure that her directions are clearly understood, and she gives each student some individual attention.

Larger classes are one way to begin or continue your Pilates training. These classes not only allow you to work out, but also to socialize. Some participants, however, may find that they are easily distracted or do not get enough personal attention in large classes. Smaller classes, with two to six participants, may be a little more expensive, but many students find that the instructor has more time to devote to each individual student.

A private Pilates instructor is often much more expensive than classes, but this also has the benefit of one-on-one instruction. Many gyms offer private Pilates training sessions, and some instructors may even visit your home. Many students may wish to attend class as well as have the occasional session with a private tutor.

Pilates training at home is becoming more popular. This can be especially helpful for those without the cash for classes or instructors. If you live in an area without a Pilates class or instructor, you may also find the numerous Pilates instruction books and DVDs very helpful.

Whatever Pilates training method that you choose, fitness experts agree that you should begin at a level that fits your experience. If you have never done Pilates, it is often recommended that you start with a small beginner Pilates class. If you have mastered the beginner's Pilates techniques, you may want to consider an advanced Pilates class that allows you to utilize Pilates machines and other equipment.
