How Do I Choose the Best Modular Furniture?

Modular furniture can be built into certain configurations, then changed into other configurations as necessary. This is advantageous for spaces that are constantly in flux to accommodate various needs. Choosing the best modular furniture starts with determining where and how you will use the various pieces, as well as how many people must be accommodated in a specific space. This type of furniture is most often used in office settings, since the configuration of that office can be changed quickly and easily to accommodate new employees. Think carefully about the space in which the furniture will be used to figure out what types will be best for you.

The office cubicle is a well-known and sometimes slandered piece of modular furniture, but it is so commonly used for a reason: cubicles can be altered quickly and easily, and the components within the cubicle can also be altered. If you own an office space and need to accommodate several employees, a cubicle system may work out well. You will need to choose between freestanding cubicles and panel-mounted units. With panel-mounted units, desks and other pieces of furniture within the cubicle will be secured to the wall panels for stability; freestanding units feature components that can be supported on their own. If furniture will be moved out of a cubicle for any reason, consider freestanding units.

Modular furniture can also be used at home. Various types of modular units exist, from beds to couches, and even tables and chairs. If you frequently host guests who will stay overnight in your home but you do not have a spare bedroom, consider a modular sofa bed. Such units can be folded up to create a sitting space during the day, and then folded down to create a sleeping space at night. The fold-out sofa bed is perhaps the most common piece of modular furniture found in homes, but other types do exist. Futon frames, for example, can fold from a couch space into a bed space, as can other types of chairs and sofas.

Ready to assemble furniture, sometimes known as knockdown furniture, is another type of modular furniture that is essentially delivered to the home in pieces for the homeowner or renter to assemble on his or her own. Such units are usually fairly easy to assemble and require minimal skills and tools; in some cases, various configurations can be used to create different pieces of furniture.
