How do I Choose the Best Hair Vitamins?

You can choose the best hair vitamins by understanding what vitamins most benefit your hair. There are certain vitamins that are more beneficial for hair health than others. If you are experiencing problems with your hair, such as hair loss or lack of luster, it might be a good idea to increase your daily intake of healthy hair vitamins. You can do this by either taking supplements or increasing the amounts of food you eat that contain vitamins considered good for hair. Some vitamins that are most beneficial for hair health are vitamins A, C, and E.

Vitamin A can be found naturally in most dairy products, meats, and some vegetables, including carrots and squash. People who do not get enough vitamin A might experience problems with a flaky, dry scalp. This vitamin can help your scalp to produce natural oils, which should help to prevent a dry, itchy scalp. If you are not eating enough foods that contain vitamin A, you might consider either taking a supplement or multivitamin that contains it.

One of the main benefits of vitamin C on the hair is its ability to stimulate hair growth. If you have problems with hair loss, getting in some extra vitamin C might help. Vitamin C can help your hair to grow because it is capable of increasing the amount of blood flow to your scalp, which could stimulate hair growth. You can probably get in all the vitamin C you need through citrus fruits or juices, which normally have an abundance of it. If you are not a fan of citrus fruits, it is widely available in supplement form as well.

Vitamin E is also beneficial for hair growth. Much like vitamin C, it can stimulate hair growth by increasing the amount of blood flow to your scalp. This may help to prevent hair loss. Another added benefit of vitamin E is that it could also help to keep the scalp from drying out by producing natural oils. Vitamin E may be found in eggs, peanuts, and wheat germ oil. It is also in asparagus and many other vegetables.

Getting in additional healthy hair vitamins might help to remedy your hair problems, but you should always be wary of overdosing on vitamins. This is particularly of concern if you are taking supplements. Vitamins are healthy, but too much of a certain vitamin can lead to problems. Taking too much vitamin E or C might result in some stomach upset, but an excess of vitamin A can lead to more serious problems, such as liver damage. Try to be mindful of the exact amounts of hair vitamins you take each day and make an effort not to exceed the recommended dosage.

@FirstBase - Biotin is a B-Vitamin found in eggs and liver. You can take 5 mg of biotin daily to help promote healthy hair and nails.

If you're planning on taking vitamins to make your hair grow or stop thinning, biotin is pretty standard and well documented.

What about taking biotin for hair loss prevention? I always heard that taking biotin would help your nails grow and also thicken your hair.

Is that an old wives tale?
