How Do I Choose the Best Cheap Rug?

Setting your purchase budget will help you determine what, exactly, cheap means to you. A cheap rug may have a different price point for you than it will for another buyer, so consider what you are willing to spend against what types of features or looks you want. Buying a cheap rug does not necessarily mean buying a bad rug, though it may sometimes mean buying one that's not quite as attractive, comfortable, or durable. Make sure you know where you will be placing it and how you will be using it, too, so you can be sure to buy one that will complement the existing decor.

Never buy a cheap rug you dislike just because it is cheap. If you end up hating the rug, you'll be less likely to use it, and it will not be a great deal in the end at all. While it is important to be flexible about color, type, shape, or size when shopping for a cheap rug, you do not need to buy something solely because it is cheap. Be selective so you get something you can be happy with, but don't be so selective that you set the bar too high. You probably won't find an authentic Oriental rug for the price of a cheap throw rug, in other words.

One way to find a cheap rug is to look for closeouts, sales, factory seconds, or rugs with imperfections. Flooring stores, hardware stores, and home centers often have plenty of these types of rugs for sale, either consistently or periodically. Keep your eyes on circulars or advertised sales as well so you can jump on the opportunities when they arise. If you live near one of these stores, visit it every so often to see if new products have arrived. Most of all, be patient. You will eventually find the cheap rug you need at the price you want if you are thorough enough in your search.

It is possible to buy a used cheap rug as well, though this is not usually advisable unless you know the rug is coming from a clean dwelling and it was maintained properly. Rugs can become infested with bacteria, dirt, mites, and even bed bugs, so if you don't know where the rug came from and it hasn't been thoroughly disinfected, it is best to avoid it altogether. Avoid used rug pads and runners as well.
