How Do I Become an Automated Logistical Specialist?

To become an automated logistical specialist, you may need to enlist in the armed forces. The primary duties of this position include overseeing warehouse operations, distributing supplies, and maintaining inventory of weaponry, food, and other military equipment. There are at least two phases of training that you will need to complete before you can become an automated logistical specialist. This is a leadership position and you will be responsible for a large inventory of military supplies. If you are a civilian and are seeking a similar profession, you may want to consider searching for employment as a logistician.

In addition to being an enlisted member of the military, you will need to have completed basic training, which typically takes nine weeks. After the successful completion of this initial general training, you will advance to a training program that is designed to prepare you to become an automated logistical specialist. This program generally takes up to 12 weeks and combines academics with hands-on training. The course generally teaches you how to handle and store weaponry, ammunition, food, and medicine. Other topics that may be covered during the training program are accounting procedures, shipping procedures, and inventory.

Most people who choose this profession are interested in accounting, finances, and mathematics. Aside from administrative duties, you should be able to operate heavy warehouse machinery. This position also offers career advancement opportunities and you may be able to work your way up to a supervisory position. A higher level position may also include training and supervising other logistical specialists and conducting financial management assessments. There are similar positions in the military including biomedical equipment specialist and cargo specialist, which your previous training may also prepare you for these professions.

In order to become an automated logistical specialist, you will need to visit a military recruitment facility to determine a plan of action and complete career training. Although this position is generally employed by the military, there are several civilian jobs that you may be qualified for including stock control clerk or parts clerk in factories, government warehouses, or distribution companies. Many people who work in this profession during active duty pursue similar careers if they retire from the service. If you become an automated logistical specialist, you may want to enroll in operations management courses to enhance your knowledge and skills in this field.
