In order to become an assault defense lawyer, you will need to go to a four-year college followed by an accredited law school. You should also consider doing an internship with a law office which handles the types of cases you want to work with. After you have completed all necessary training, you may work doing various types of cases to gain more experience as an attorney. To gain experience in assault cases, you may work with another attorney on them or offer your services pro bono to those who cannot afford normal attorney fees.

The first step needed to become an assault defense lawyer is to attend a four-year college. Once you have a degree in whatever major you choose, you will need to pass an exam and be accepted into an accredited law school. Law schools generally require three or more years before graduation. After you have completed your formal education, you will likely need to pass a final exam and possibly additional exams to practice law in your specific area. These rules and regulations will vary based on location.

While attending law school, it would be a good idea to do an internship if you want to be an assault defense lawyer in particular. Many lawyers also start their own practices in order to become an assault defense lawyer, so this may be a good route to employment as well if you have the desire to start your own business.
