How Do I Become an Army Logistician?

If you would like to become an army logistician in the United States Army, you must first have attained the rank of staff sergeant. You must also have less than 10 years of duty and a letter of recommendation from a battalion commander with the rank of lieutenant colonel or higher. Another qualification to become an army logistician includes being able to submit copies of your college transcripts from an accredited school. You will need to meet both height and weight standards as defined in Army Regulation (AR) 600-9, the Army Weight Control Program, and you must also have a security clearance.

The worldwide deployment of troops and materials has created the need for many non-commissioned officers (NCOs) in the U.S.Army to become army logisticians. While serving as an occupational force, the military is required to provide certain services that involve both military as well as civilian members of the occupied country. In order for you to become an army logistician, you must first have attained the rank of staff sergeant (E-6) and posses an exemplary military record. In some instances, you must have also completed and passed a contract training course either prior to enlistment or while enlisted in the United States Army.

One very critical component to become an army logistician is that you must have 10 or less years of service in the military or federal service at the time of application to the program. You must also be eligible and competitive for promotion, having served at least one tour of duty in a leadership role in order for you to become an army logistician. You must also have an impeccable record, with no blemishes or derogatory information in your official military personnel record. This is partially due to the requirement that you must possess a security clearance in order to become an army logistician.

While not a legal requirement in the civilian sector, the military demands that you meet recommended height and weight standards, thereby exhibiting a proper physical appearance. You must also exhibit stability in all of your personnel affairs at the time of your application to the program. This means that you must have a good credit rating, not be delinquent on your bills or payments, and have a healthy marriage or relationship with your spouse or partner, if applicable, in order to become an army logistician. You must also be reclassified as an army logistician and abandon whatever military occupation specialty you possessed at the time of your application to become an army logistician.
