An application architect is a highly technical profession, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is almost always required to enter this field. Most companies may prefer that your degree is in computer engineering or a related concentration, and you will want to research universities that have a well-developed computer science department. An early interest in science will help you enter this profession, and you should participate in as many science community events as possible. Volunteer work in computer labs can also help you gain the needed experience to become an application architect.

Once you have been accepted to an accredited university, you should consult a college adviser in order to choose the appropriate coursework needed to become an application architect. Prerequisites for computer engineering are usually required and these classes will have a heavy focus on science and mathematics. After successful completion of necessary coursework, you will want to enroll in advanced courses including principles of digital design, systems programming, and design algorithms.
