In order to become a party magician, you first need to learn magic tricks. Learning a trick can take days, weeks, months, or even years. After you learn one trick, you need to perfect it, which takes an additional amount of time. Once you feel that you have acquired an advanced repertoire of tricks, you need to develop a routine.

After you have this down as well, it's time to market yourself and get your name out there. You can't just force yourself into a party as a magician; you need to be invited. This is why getting your name out there creatively is perhaps the most important step to become a party magician.

Learning magic is like learning anything else — practice makes perfect. The problem is that anything less than perfect in magic is, well, embarrassing. You can't almost finish a trick, and if you don't successfully execute a magic trick, your secrets could be revealed. You can learn magic in a variety of ways. You could buy a book, watch instructional videos, or hire a private tutor. The route you take to learn magic does not matter as much as the dedication you have toward achieving your goals.

Once you have developed your skills, try to maneuver each trick strategically into a routine. You can't simply get in front of a crowd and crank out each trick like a robot. There needs to be some ebb and flow to your routine. The best party magicians can interact with their audiences to keep everyone engaged. Developing a character or stage personality can help you achieve this.

Try to watch or study some of the most successful magicians to understand this concept of stage presence. Also, practice again and again the transitions between tricks until they are silky smooth. Your routine should be more of a performance than an execution of trick after trick.

Now that you are ready for the big leagues, it's time to become a party magician. Finding clients is essential as you can't become a party magician without a party. Try working through talent agencies or advertising your name in a newspaper or online. If you are good, once you have a few clients, your clientele should grow rapidly through word of mouth. If this does not happen, then perhaps you need more practice before getting back into the field.
