How Do I Become a Delphi® Programmer?

Jennifer Leigh

A person with computer skills can become a Delphi® programmer to add to his or her job skills. Delphi® is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for creating programs, though many people use the term to refer to the Object Pascal programming language used in the IDE. If you are interested in computer programming and have a desire to learn Delphi®, there are certification processes available to show that you have met a certain standard of training. Previous education is not required to learn this language and become a Delphi® programmer, but is generally necessary to be able to understand and execute it properly.

Consider obtaining a four-year degree in computer science with an emphasis in programming before attempting to learn how to become a Delphi® programmer. This will provide you with the foundation you need to fully understand different programming languages and the extent of their abilities. If you do not have the time or the money for a four-year degree, you can attend a two-year technical school in computer programming to learn some of the basics. Without a background in programming, it would be quite difficult to become a Delphi® programmer.

Once you have a background in computer science, you can begin study on Delphi®. There are many programs and books available that can help teach you in your own time, or you can take a Delphi® class at a college or university. Online courses are also available if you are interested in more instruction than self-study, but still wish to learn in your free time. It is likely that you will need a copy of Delphi&reg in order to learn how to do it properly with practice, so consider purchasing it before you begin training.

It is possible to get on-the-job training in Delphi® if you work for the right company. If you are employed as a computer programmer, consider asking your employer if training is available. You might be able to learn from someone else or have your classes paid for so that you can bring a new skill set to your work.

After you have some experience in Delphi® and wish to become a Delphi® programmer, you can take an examination to be certified. This examination shows people that you have a certain mastery over the subject matter, which can help you to find jobs. There are also Delphi® certified master developer examinations once you have worked as a programmer for a few years and are very knowledgeable in the subject.
