A college education is almost always required to become a data architect and you will want to research different job descriptions in order to determine the educational path that best suits your career goals. Computer science or related programs may be your best degree option to enter this profession. Due to the highly technical nature of this position, ideal candidates typically show a natural interest in science and technology. Although a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree may be required to become a data architect, you may want to consider continuing your education to obtain a master's degree. An advanced degree may increase salary rates, employment options, and career advancement opportunities.

Once you have enrolled in an accredited university, you will need to begin working on the necessary prerequisites for coursework in your major, which are the building blocks of a college education. A college adviser can assist you with selecting courses that will prepare you to enter this profession. Your prerequisites will be heavily based on general science and mathematics which will prepare you for courses including principles of computer science, introduction to computer architecture, and fundamentals of computation. In addition you will have computer laboratory work that will accompany your courses and these experiences will help you become a data architect.
