Land acquisition, ordering materials, obtaining permits, supervising employees, and ensuring that project timelines are followed are primary duties of a construction manager. You need a bachelor's degree in construction management, business, or finance to become a construction management trainee. Spend school breaks working as a construction intern. Your resume must reflect a basic understanding of how the construction field operates. The experience gained as an intern will give you the basics you need to polish your resume. Volunteer for various jobs within the company during your internship.

Obtain positions in project management. Even if you work in a field outside of construction, it is important to gain experience in managing project tasks.
